Tampon talk is on the rise. No longer are we willing to be embarrassed about the monthly bloodstreams half of the population maintain, and technology is catching up. First, period pants; second, a radical invention for girls in developing countries; and now a tampon storage necklace.
What is a pretty bizarre development but equally revolutionary, the Emergency Tampon necklace by Swedish designer Katarina Hornwall flaunts a sleek pendant shaped like that of a tampon, so you can carry one round with you should the "occasion" arise.
When the crimson wave unexpectedly hits and you're unequipped to deal (we can't always be as prepared as our moms, okay) there's really no other option than to ask every girl in your vicinity for a little cotton friend after the tenth time digging through your bag.
But the Emergency Tampon necklace, made of solid aluminum and brass bars, is a stylish way to carry your tampon around for when the moment of need comes around, unless you're into applicators... But the designer has marketed it as unisex, so boys, you can join in the fun if you want to.
Hornwall came up with the idea after discussions with her mates about how taboo tampons and periods are, and decided she didn't want them to be hidden. She told Dezeen:
"It is supposed to be a bit thought provoking. I thought it would be interesting to let the tampon be a bit of a 'show off'."
Some people might mistake the pendant for a bullet vibe hanging round your neck, but if you want to be menstruating and proud, this is one way to flaunt it.
