After purchasing the rights to the film, Netflix has revealed the new trailer for Mowgli by Andy Serkis.
Warner Bros was planning to release Mowgli in October this year, but the company eventually sold the rights to the film to Netflix in July. The streaming giant estimated that the movie would be released in 2019. But everything changed this week, when Netflix published an unseen trailer, announcing the release of the film on December 7 this year.
The feature film, which mixes live action and motion capture, is directed by Andy Serkis, better known as the actor who played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings. Serkis is not only working behind the camera, and will also make an appearance as Baloo, the bear. The five-star cast features the voices of Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Naomie Harris.
"I wanted to make an emotional version of this story, which has already been told many times", Andy Serkis explained in Singapore, as Variety reports. This adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book focuses on the difficulties Mowgli faces in living between two worlds: the animal world where he was brought up and the human community which takes him in.
Mowgli will be released on Netflix on December 7 and screened at several cinemas in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and London from November 29.
